ExperienceAn experienced control room engineer in CFB boiler or 2-year experience as control room engineer in a thermal power plant. Minimum of 1-year experience as auxiliary operator in a CFB boiler.

Job Purpose

To operate and control boiler and its auxiliaries through Distributed Control System for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the plant.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the start-up and shutdown of Boiler and its auxiliaries.
  • Responsible for normal operation of the plant and load variations.
  • Record, monitor and evaluate operating system parameters such as temperature, pressure, tank levels and flow trend curves and make necessary recommendations to the Boiler Shift Supervisor for optimum boiler performance and to prevent breakdowns.

  • Monitor and interpret DCS alarm indications of equipment malfunction and coordinate with Boiler Shift Supervisor and Auxiliary Operator for alarm rectification.
  • Operate the control system of the plant substation equipment and HV/LV switchgear during plant maintenance activities, emergency situations or as required.
  • Troubleshoot any abnormalities during the shift and initiate remedial measures to prevent unnecessary downtime.
  • Communicate with plant dispatch to regulate and coordinate line voltages and transmission loads and frequencies at normal operation.
  • Coordinate with personnel concerned/affected during equipment maintenance, servicing and tests.
  • Assist in the implementation of plant’s policies, SOPs, safety procedures, good housekeeping, energy conservation guidelines and environmental regulations.
  • Perform other functions not limited to tasks related to the job such as committee and cross training functions if designated.

Skills

  • Considerable knowledge in the operations of steam turbines and coal fired boilers.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret operational statistical and graphical data regarding power plant operation.
  • Knowledge in Mechanical and Electrical Systems including its design and operation.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment instructional manuals and maintenance operating procedure.
  • Application of considerable knowledge of local laws, regulations rules and ordinances and departmental policies and procedures related to the area of operation including occupational hazards and safety precautions such as proper handling and disposal of chemicals used in operation.
  • Working knowledge on good techniques and practices in the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate using different media such as email, radio and telephone.
  • Working knowledge in using problem solving techniques and decision-making tools such as Cause and Effect Diagrams and other related techniques. Ability to determine causes of operating error and deciding on appropriate actions to eliminate such cause from reoccurring.
