Update on Mangrove Rehabilitation Program

Since 2018 FDC Misamis Power Corporation has provided maintenance and monitoring funds to the local fisherfolks organization to support LGU Villanueva in their Mangrove Rehabilitation Program.

To encourage scientific mangrove rehabilitation along the area and align their program with the new Integrated Coastal Management plan of LGU-Villanueva, the company partnered with Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan’s McKeough Marine Center during the first semester of 2021. This strategy will hopefully help address the high mortality rate of mangroves planted on Macalajar bay.

Mangrove replanting activities were conducted on March 19 and April 28. Volunteers are from MENRO Villanueva, PNP, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines faculty, and fisherfolks groups from Barangays Looc, Poblacion 1, Poblacion 3, and Balacanas. A total of 1,000 seedlings of mangroves were replanted during this period.
