Education for Empowerment - Reading Program
Watts Upon A Time Virtual Reading Program
FDC Misamis’ Virtual Reading Initiatives aims to support DepEd’s Learning Continuity Plan amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. It recognizes the importance of education and ensures children and youths’ right to access quality education and provide a learner-centered and inclusive education for all. The program is in support of DepEd’s Brigada sa Pagbasa project.
FDC Misamis implemented the initiative in partnership with Adarna House Foundation, an NGO that promotes love for books and reading.
The virtual reading program gave students access to age-appropriate books and supplemental webinars to equip parents, volunteers, and teachers to effectively teach essential learning competencies (MELCS), focusing on reading comprehensions among student-learners.
It was participated by 75 Grade 3 pupils in Balacanas Elementary School, emphasizing storytelling sessions via Zoom. Teachers, parents, and volunteers were provided with training by the Adarna House experts through a webinar to equip them to become better storytellers.
A total of eight (8) storytelling sessions were conducted starting from November to December 2020. A variety of storybooks were also provided to Balacanas Elementary School to supplement the school’s need for quality storybooks.
Awarding of certificates to participants was conducted on January 8, 2021.
