Rice Duck “Itikan sa Kalambuan” Program

As early as 2015, FDC Misamis in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental and Rice Duck Movement Inc. (RDMI), launched the first phase of the Duck Egg Project tagged as “Itikan sa Kalambuan,” with beneficiaries from the “CLAJAVITA” (Claveria, Jasaan, Villianueva and Tagoloan) municipalities.
Through this project, poverty incidence is expected to be reduced by providing livelihood opportunities and increase food availability by raising ducks at home.
During the program’s post evaluation and monitoring, it was seen that beneficiaries had an additional income ranging from Php 160.00 – Php 200.00 per day for every 100 layer-ducks producing eggs.
This translated to Php 4,800.00 – Php 6,000.00 added income per month.
Due to the positive outcome, the second implementation of this project was launched this year in order to sustain the program and expand the reach of its impact. This also promotes grassroots participation in the Integrated Rice Duck Farming Systems value chain development in Villanueva and Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The second phase kicked off with a two-day training that includes a field visit to breeder farms and rice duck farms for the new beneficiaries.
The first day was about the basic practices and principles of Integrated Rice Duck Farming Systems (IRDFS); the second day was a field visit to a model rice duck farm and breeder farms from the previous project beneficiaries.
